Hello world!

Welcome to the Smithsonian Institution Archives blog!

The Smithsonian Institution Archives serves as the institutional memory of the Smithsonian Institution. With 19 museums, 9 research centers, and the National Zoo, the archives helps ensure institutional accountability and work to enhance public appreciation of these national treasures. SI Archives works with the Smithsonian community, scholars and the general public by:

  • appraising, acquiring, and preserving the records of the institution and related documentary materials;
  • establishing policies and providing guidance for management of the national collections;
  • offering a range of reference, research, and records services;
  • and creating products and services which promote understanding of the Smithsonian and its history.

As we move towards digitizing our collections, SI Archives is looking for ways to broaden its interaction with the digital world.  Our blog is here for staff, scholars and the general public to comment, question and add to the knowledge of this great institution. We only ask that your participation be both respectful and responsible.  Feel free to explore around and welcome to the archives!
